研究目的:
2000年台灣大舉投入面板產業,並積極擴充產能,並透過面板產業發展完整的產業鏈如上游材料與設備開發,下游的背光模組等,台灣面板產業蓬勃發展,將面板產品導入電視、螢幕、筆電、平板、手機等相關應用,需求大幅增加,台灣面板產業躍升為全球面板主要供應商,如友達、群創、翰宇彩晶、華映等。之後由於大陸政府挾國家之力大舉的技術研發補助、產業政策支持、土地和資金支持,大幅增加面板產能,導致產業面臨激烈的競爭與激盪。從台灣面板業過去的技術與價值創新的演進中,台灣面板業如何推動雙軌轉型(Dual transformation)架構下,有效率利用產業資源與台灣電子產業的優勢,創造產業價值,維持競爭優勢,挑戰新商業模式,為台灣面板業重新價值創造。從現今電子產業之前的演進歷史與目前產業轉型策略分析產業如何應用目前AI、5G、車載的浪潮,創造產業價值。
研究方法:
本研究利用訪談與資料之方式做資料搜集,主要訪談對象為面板產業相關專家與高階經理人,而歷史資料收集以台灣面板產業3.5代廠開始如何進行技術與產品轉型與價值創新的過程對應目前台灣兩大面板商友達與群創的軸轉策略及價值創新。
研究結果:
1. 台灣面板業轉型勢在必行,如何有效運用內、外部資源強化本業務與發展產業第二成長引擎為目前當要之課題。
2. 台灣面板業要在全球激烈的競爭中脫穎而出,需要透過內部資源的深化、深化創新與研發及商業模式維持競爭優勢、實現價值創新與產業生態系統的建立,以及策略性聯盟的發展,來進行雙軌轉型,從而創造出獨特的競爭優勢和價值創新。
研究結論:
台灣面板產業在面臨大陸政府強力扶植下,造成需求與供給極度不平衡的狀況下,產業波動極度不穩定,進而影響產業長期發展。在中美競爭的地緣政治,與近年烏俄戰爭,及中東局勢動盪下,給全球經濟的復甦帶來了嚴峻挑戰,而大陸經濟飽受影響,嚴重內捲,讓台灣面板業得以喘息,並思考如何以創新的商業模式進行雙軌轉型架構,利用產業本身內、外部資源重整,強化顯示器產業的技術門檻,如跨入車載與自駕的應用,將顯示技術由原來的被動發光的液晶技術提升到主動二極體發光顯示技術,創造差異化。並利用本身的資源,創造競爭優勢,建立第二成長曲線,與台灣優勢的電子產業結合,如以面板級扇出封裝技術提供目前人工智能對高速運算元件的需求,重新定義價值與創新為台灣面板業永續經營奠定基礎。
In the year 2000, Taiwan made significant investments in the panel industry, leading to the expansion of its production capacity and the development of a complete industrial chain, including upstream materials and equipment development, as well as downstream backlight modules. This resulted in a booming FPD (flat panel display) industry in Taiwan, with flat panel displays being widely used in televisions, monitors, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and other display applications. As a result, the demand for FPDs increased significantly, and Taiwan's FPD industry emerged as a major global supplier through companies such as AUO, Innolux, Hannstar, and CPT.
However, the industry faced fierce competition and disruption when the Chinese government utilized state power to heavily subsidize technology research and development, provide industrial policy support, and offer land and financial support to increase panel production capacity. This led to an imbalance between supply and demand, resulting in unstable industrial profits and impacting the long-term development of the industry.
In light of these challenges, Taiwan's FPD industry is now considering how to promote a dual-transformation structure to efficiently utilize industrial resources and leverage the advantages of Taiwan's electronics industry. One approach is to create industrial value by embracing new technologies such as AI, 5G, automotive, and auto-pilot systems. By analyzing the evolution history of the industry and implementing an industrial transformation strategy, Taiwan's FPD industry can redefine its value proposition and competitive advantages.
Amidst geopolitical competition and global economic uncertainties, Taiwan's panel industry has an opportunity to reorganize its internal and external resources to strengthen the technical threshold of the display industry. For instance, by venturing into vehicle and self-driving applications, the industry can upgrade its display technology from passive light-emitting liquid crystal display to light emitting diode display, thereby creating differentiation and competitive advantages. Additionally, leveraging Taiwan's advantageous electronics industry, such as wafer packaging technology to meet the high-speed computing needs of artificial intelligence, will further establish a second growth curve for the industry.
In conclusion, by embracing innovation and redefining its value proposition through technological advancements and strategic partnerships within Taiwan's electronics industry, the FPD industry can build a foundation for sustainable operations and maintain its competitive edge in the global market.
