  • The Cigu Salt Pan Wetland is in the southwestern coastal area of Tainan. It has stopped making salt since May 2002. Due to its rich ecological resources, it was considered as a national important wetland in 2007.
This wetland provides a wide range of ecosystem services, which that directly or indirectly provide benefits to mankind or improve human wellbeing. Human communities have been mindful of their dependence on the goods and services which were supplied by ecosystems, like food sources, raw materials, and fiber for a long time. However, coastal wetlands are already declining every year, mainly because of indirect and direct mankind activities, together with impacts of rising sea levels. Coastal region wetlands are at the risk caused by the sea-level rise, and they have gotten some noticed in the researches.
From the point of population exposure, the western areas in Taiwan are very susceptible to rising sea levels and flood events and. The responses for low-lying areas to deal with sea-level rise should be implemented on time to get positive results.
The study would like to identify the existing ecosystem services in the Cigu Salt Pan Wetlands and local villagers' risk perception of sea-level rise issues. There is a total of 72 local residents were interviewed in the Chingkunshen village, Yancheng Village, Dingshan Village, Xiliao Village, and some people in and around the salt pans. Through the surveys, researchers collected related data to get a better grasp of the particular needs and thoughts of people in the region.
