This study examines the relationship between the establishment of audit committee and stock price crash risk. Historical evidence suggests that stock price crashes often result in substantial losses for investors. Taiwan has adopted the audit committee system from abroad, hoping to enhance the effectiveness of corporate governance. Therefore, this study seeks to investigate whether Taiwan's regulatory framework for establishing audit committee can reduce the level of information asymmetry between investors and corporations and consequently lower the risk of stock price crash risk, thereby protecting investors and promoting more stable economic development. Additionally, the study explores whether the audit committee members and the chairperson with accounting or financial background affect stock price crash risk. However, our empirical results find no evidence that establishing audit committee or including more members or a chairperson with accounting or financial expertise reduces future stock price crash risk in Taiwan.
