The content of this research can be divided into three parts. In the first part, we investigate the effects of both “global sourcing strategy” and “sourcing key factors” on “market performance”. Then, in the second part, we try to examine the moderating effects of “international purchasing barriers” on the relationship between “international sourcing strategy” and “market performance”. Finally, the third part is the difference analysis in perception of “international purchasing barriers” based upon “corporate characters”.
We got the data by mailing and faxing questionnaires to foreign companies in North American,Europe,Asia and Australian.300 questionnaires had been mailed, and 147 usable responses were obtained. Through the regression analysis, hierarchical regression, ANOVA analysis, the empirical study shows that (1) “domestic sourcing strategy ”has negative impact on its strategic and financial performance, but “multinational sourcing strategy ”has positive impact on them, and “global integrated sourcing strategy ” has positive impact on its financial performance, (2)the “strategic and financial performance” advantages of “multinational sourcing strategy ”over other strategies with increased “government impediment”, the “financial performance” disadvantages of “global integrated sourcing strategy ”over other strategies with increased “resource limits”, the “financial performance” advantages of “global integrated sourcing strategy ”over other strategies with increased “external environment challenges”. (3) “competitiveness-oriented factors” positively affects strategic performance ; “globalization-oriented factors” positively affects financial performance (4)the types and degrees of barriers associated with international sourcing are different in terms of “firm size” and “degree of internationalization”.
The main contribution of this study is that, first, we provide a sound conceptual base for investigating international purchasing behaviors of finished goods. Secondly, we proposed two variables, “sourcing key factors”and “international purchasing barriers” to explain the effects of “international sourcing strategy” on “market performance”.Besides, the result also provide evidence which shows that previous scholars’ points in perceived crucial factors of affecting international purchasing barriers.
