Geopolitical risk has become an increasingly important factor influencing corporate supply chain management in the context of deepening globalization. In recent years, events such as the U.S.–China trade war, the COVID-19 pandemic, and escalating geopolitical tensions have introduced significant uncertainty and disruption to global supply chains. This study aims to examine the impact of geopolitical risk on supply chain resilience through a qualitative case study of Company E in the LED optoelectronics industry.
As a major optoelectronics firm in Taiwan, Company E has been required to reassess its supply chain strategies in response to a rapidly changing external environment. Rising geopolitical tensions, particularly those related to trade relations with China, have prompted the firm to strengthen supply chain diversification and resilience to ensure operational continuity. This study adopts a qualitative research approach and collects empirical data through in-depth interviews with senior managers and supply chain experts at E Corporation.
The analysis focuses on five key dimensions of resilient supply chain management: robustness, redundancy, resourcefulness, response, and recovery. The findings indicate that Company E enhances supply chain robustness by strengthening control over critical technologies and diversifying suppliers, while redundancy is selectively applied through backup production capacity and inventory systems. In addition, the firm improves supply chain transparency and traceability through data analytics, enabling rapid decision-making and adaptive responses to disruptions. Finally, well-established contingency planning and recovery mechanisms allow the firm to restore normal operations efficiently following supply chain interruptions.
Overall, the results demonstrate that geopolitical risk has a significant impact on supply chain stability and resilience. By adopting a resilience-oriented supply chain strategy, Company E has effectively mitigated external shocks and maintained competitive advantage in an increasingly uncertain global environment.
