This paper investigates the relationship between female directors, innovation and firm performance. In this study, the sample is based on Taiwan electronics industry during the period of 2016 to 2019.The empirical results show that female directors positively related to R&D intensity. Different from Saggese and Sarto (2018), using Italian high-tech industry companies as a sample and finding that female board of directors had a negative impact on innovation activities, this study investigates Taiwanese electronics industry and finds that companies with female directors will invest more in innovation activities. The difference in gender composition can bring more different views to the board of directors and improve the ability to solve problems, which is helpful for the development of innovative activities. This study further finds that in the sample with female directors, the ratio of female directors is not significantly related to the amount that investment in innovative activities. Using ROA as a measure of firm performance, the empirical results suggest that whether the company has female directors or not, there is no significant difference in the correlation between innovation activities and firm performance.
