Industrial heritage is an important part of the world's cultural heritage, and it is also the focus of cultural heritage protection all over the world. With the urban transformation and high-quality economic development, people are paying more and more attention to heritage protection. Many countries have conducted in-depth discussions and research on the theory of industrial heritage protection, and several well-known industrial heritage protection cases have also been produced in practice. In recent years, China has also paid more and more attention to the protection and reuse of industrial heritage and has carried out a series of exploratory attempts. Nevertheless, there are still a large number of industrial architectural heritage was brutally demolished or seriously damaged, including some historic and socio-cultural values of the case, which caused an irreparable impact on the development of historical and cultural heritage. To avoid such undifferentiated destructive behavior, it is very necessary to carry out the systematic certification and evaluation of industrial heritage. However, the existing norms are not rigorous enough, the restrictions and differences of local regulations should be taken into consideration to establish a system that is wildly applicable for scientific evaluation. As an important city of urban heritage protection work, Wuhan has not yet established a standard industrial heritage value evaluation system. The planning of the industrial heritage is dominated by the government’s macro-control and the commercial purpose of the developers. This subjective type of transformation to Wuhan industrial heritage caused the irreversible loss. Therefore, this article takes Wuhan City as an example to establish a scientific and effective value evaluation system according to local conditions. Nine existing industrial heritage sites are selected for comprehensive value evaluation, which provided a reference for future heritage protection and reuse strategies.
In the theoretical part, firstly, this article describes related concepts and defines the scope of research. Then, it sorted out the historical evolution of the protection and reuse of industrial heritage in the world as well as related theoretical studies and practices. Among them, the focus was on the evaluation factors and evaluation criteria of industrial heritage. In addition, this article used the CiteSpace software to conduct a bibliometric analysis of the industrial heritage research literature in the web of science database from 2016 to 2021, extracted high-frequency keywords and analyzed the knowledge graph of keywords and co-occurring words. Through the cluster analysis of the knowledge map, the research hotspots of industrial heritage were explored, and the time series function was added to analyze the changes in the research hotspots. Based on the above analysis, this article summarized the research issues of industrial heritage in recent years and put forward suggestions for its future development trend.
In the empirical part, firstly, referring to the historical evolution of modern industrial development in China and related documents, this article sorts out the historical context and evolution of Wuhan’s modern industrial development and summarizes the basic overview of Wuhan’s industrial heritage (eg. type, distribution, age, etc.). And through field research and related literature, the overview of nine industrial heritage sites in Wuhan was compiled. Next, expert questionnaires are set up using the Delphi method and the analytic hierarchy process. After multiple rounds of expert opinion consultation, the value composition of industrial heritage is qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed, thereby constructing a value evaluation system for industrial heritage. Then, combined with the above-mentioned evaluation system, the second questionnaire survey was carried out using the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method, and the nine industrial heritages selected in this paper were scored and the hierarchical classification was obtained. Finally, through hierarchical classification, relevant suggestions are made for the protection and reuse of industrial heritage.
