The coronavirus pandemic has severely impacted the theatrical arts, affecting artists' well-being, careers, and practices. In Taiwan, theatre has long been integral to cultural expression. As the pandemic subsides, many theatre groups strive to recover and reconnect with their audiences. This study examines the well-being of Taiwanese theatre artists in the post-pandemic era, focusing on Resident Island Dance Theatre and Fevervine Dance Theatre as case studies. Resident Island Dance Theatre, established in 2010, is renowned for its humanistic care and has earned significant recognition in Taiwanese performing arts. Fevervine Dance Theatre, founded in 2002, consistently supported by the National Culture and Arts Foundation and the Ministry of Culture, contributes richly to Taiwan's cultural narratives.
By utilizing in-depth interview, observation, and online ethnographic research, this study explores the resilience strategies of these groups. Findings highlight innovative approaches to support members and sustain artistic efforts. This research underscores the significance of well-being, organizational support, and adaptive strategies, offering valuable insights for theatrical artists in a post-pandemic world. The experiences of Resident Island Dance Theatre and Fevervine Dance Theatre provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and strategies employed by Taiwanese theatrical artists as they navigate the recovery process in the wake of the pandemic.
