This research paper investigated which elements of a National Basketball Association team lead to a high level of team performance. Another aim was to find out if home field advantage, which has historically been applied as a direct effect, would be better suited as a moderating effect. Finally, the path dependent nature of the NBA was examined to determine if teams with a brilliant win history obtained more opportunity to succeed in the future as well. This paper measures team human capital through the lenses of the resource-based view by utilizing quantitative data from eleven years of NBA team-based outcomes. The results revealed that the most important elements of team human capital are a coaching record and all-star players. Home field advantage was discovered to be extremely well suited as a moderating effect. Team history was deemed to have little or no significant bearing on a team’s current performance.
