  • Flooding has become an annual natural hazard that always occurs in Jakarta. The impact worsens year by year as many factors have driven the higher probability of flooding and lead to more losses in the future. The risk patterns interplay with many factors is an important focus to minimize the risk. Understanding how people perceived risk with the flood risk mapping generated from the actual data is necessary to tighten the gap of implementing risk reduction measures. Citizens can provide the knowledge that not be able to draw in engineering approaches. This study aims to explore the distinction between flood risk and risk perception mapping. We present a quantitative study with modeling survey data of participants in Kapuk Muara, North Jakarta. The analysis includes comparing each flood parameter's relationship, validated by the way people see the risk itself. Our findings indicate that only several flood parameters correlate with people’s opinions regarding the flood risk. We also find that people see the risk differently from the physical flood risk mapping since they tend to believe all the region in their area has the same degree of severity and they think the risk based on the part or region that get flooded first. In particular, we highlight how people interact with flooding and influence their perception from time to time.
