With the rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in 2022, the demand for cloud access and computing has increased significantly. The global server market is expanding rapidly. Taiwan's server supply chain covers all levels, from chip manufacturing to assembly, showing The integrity of the industrial chain. At the same time, Taiwan's server industry faces challenges during the pandemic, such as delivery delays, component shortages, and Taiwan's employment shortage.
This study is significant as it utilizes the SBM model (Slacks Based Measure) to comprehensively evaluate the performance of 20 server companies in Taiwan from 2018 to 2022. The model considers the number of employees and research and development expenses as input items, and operating revenue, intangible assets, and earnings per share as output items, with fixed assets serving as life-period linked items. This approach provides an objective and comprehensive assessment of the industry's performance.
Research results show that (1) the average overall performance of Taiwan's 20 server companies over a 5-year period was 0.40. Parade-KY, DELTA, Wiwynn, and Aspeed performed best, while Lite-On, Quanta, and Inventec ranked last. (2) Most server companies perform well in research on cost efficiency, and most need to improve their investment in employee numbers, intangible assets, and earnings per share output. The server upstream industry needs to increase the efficiency of investment in research expenses, while the server midstream industry needs to increase the output efficiency of intangible assets.
