  • ABSTRACT
Background: HIV testing is an initial way to detect Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) status, and people with high-risk for HIV are vulnerable to exposure to the virus. Currently World Health Organization (WHO) recommends regular HIV testing every 6 months while coronavirus diseases 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has been impacted to health care services. Analysing the factors that are associated with the regular anonymous HIV testing is a benefit for clinical evidence to uptake HIV testing and clinical plans.
Purpose: This study aims to analyse the factors associated with regular anonymous HIV testing among people at high-risk for HIV.
Methods: This is a secondary data analysis using existing hospital databases from January 2019 to December 2021 at National Cheng Kung Hospital (NCKUH). Data including socio-demographics, sexual behaviour, and HIV related knowledge and medication. Multiple logistic regression was applied to analyse factors associated with regular receiving HIV testing among high-risk group.
Result: This study analysed 7107 HIV testing between 2019 and 2021, with a slight decrease in overall HIV testing during the pandemic COVID-19 from 2528 in 2019 to 2033 in 2021. We found male (adjusted odds ratio (aOR)= 7.88; 95% CI: 1.11 to 60.99), multiple sex partner (aOR= 0.12; 95% CI: 0.01 to 0.95) and knew their sex partner’s HIV status (aOR= 2.98; 95% CI: 1.20 to 7.39) related to regular anonymous HIV testing among people at high-risk for HIV.
Conclusion: Utilization of regular HIV testing in Taiwan is still low. Strategies to enhance groups at high-risk for HIV uptake HIV testing is needed, especially targeting people at high-risk for HIV who are female, self-reported less multiple sex partner, and did not know HIV status of their sexual partner.
