  • 本研究以2015年至2024年間臺灣上市公司為研究樣本,探討董事會性別多元性與企業ESG績效之關聯。實證結果顯示,在控制公司特質、董事會結構與產業固定效果後,女性董事的存在與企業整體ESG績效呈現顯著正向關聯,且該結果於不同女性董事衡量方式下仍具穩健性。進一步的橫斷面分析顯示,女性董事之影響主要體現在環境與公司治理構面,而在社會構面則未呈現顯著關聯。此外,補充分析結果顯示,在控制股東代理問題較為嚴重的公司中,女性董事比例與ESG績效之正向關聯更為明顯。整體而言,本研究結果顯示董事會性別多元性可能與企業ESG表現存在重要關聯,並突顯董事會治理結構在企業永續經營與ESG決策中所扮演的角色,為臺灣情境下公司治理與永續發展研究提供參考。

    This study investigates the relationship between board gender diversity and corporate ESG performance, using a sample of listed companies in Taiwan from 2015 to 2024. After controlling for firm characteristics, board structures, and industry fixed effects, the empirical results indicate a significant positive correlation between the presence of female directors and overall corporate ESG performance. This finding remains robust across various measures of female board representation.
    Further cross-sectional analysis reveals that the influence of female directors is primarily reflected in the Environmental (E) and Governance (G) dimensions, while no significant correlation is found in the Social (S) dimension. Additionally, supplemental analysis shows that the positive relationship between the proportion of female directors and ESG performance is more pronounced in companies with more severe agency problems between controlling shareholders and minority interests.
    Overall, the results suggest that board gender diversity plays a crucial role in corporate ESG outcomes. This study highlights the importance of board governance structures in sustainable operations and ESG decision-making, providing valuable insights for research on corporate governance and sustainable development within the Taiwanese context.
