Previous literatures usually connect competitive actions with Sun-Tzu, especially on less competitive firms. Besides, literatures in SMEs emphasize manager plays a key role, which correspond to Sun-Tzu as well. Based on these viewpoints, we try to connect these two fields of researches and figure out the relationship between the characteristic of managers and their strategic actions on firm performance. We choose 87 semi-conductor companies in Taiwan on 2011. By sending questionnaire to the top manager, we discuss five virtues (wisdom, credit, benevolent, brave, strict) of manager to their strategic action (visibility, speed, volume), and the influence on firm performance.

According to our research results, credit and benevolent have positive effects on visibility while brave and strict have negative effects. Wisdom, Brave and strict have positive effects on both speed and volume. In addition, visibility has a negative relationship with firm performance, and speed and volume have positive effect instead.
