As artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and 5G reshape the global technology industry, Taiwan's computer and peripheral equipment sector faces supply chain restructuring, generative AI disruption, and tightening ESG regulations. This study examines how 45 Taiwan-listed firms transform operational inputs into corporate competitiveness, applying the Range Directional Measure based Directional Distance Function Model over 2020–2024.
Overall industry efficiency improved steadily throughout the study period. First-stage operational efficiency was consistently strong, while second-stage corporate competitiveness efficiency remained lower and more volatile, confirming that translating operational strength into comprehensive market performance is the sector's primary challenge.
Classifying firms by product attributes and market positioning reveals pronounced group differences. Niche enterprises focused on industrial computers and edge computing ranked first across all efficiency dimensions, while system assembly firms ranked last. The study identifies benchmark firms within each group for peers to reference, and recommends that the government adopt differentiated industrial guidance policies tailored to each group's characteristics.
