In 2023, the Tainan City Museum adopted a new name and introduced partially renewed exhibitions. However, whether the preservation achievements advocated by the Koxinga Ancestral Temple and related organizations, along with the local networks they have built, have contributed to these cultural developments remains a central question of this study. This research begins with a literature review discussing the relationship between social capital and urban regeneration. Subsequently, through on-site questionnaire surveys, it conducts an empirical analysis of the levels and characteristics of social capital within Koxinga-related organizations.
The empirical results indicate that the Ancestral Temple and its affiliated groups generally exhibit positive social capital characteristics. Approximately ten percent of participants stated that their motivation for involvement is driven by behaviors beneficial to the community. Additionally, the length of residence influences the degree of social capital development; long-term residents tend to demonstrate stronger emotional attachment and a sense of belonging to the organization, community, and broader society, and are more willing to offer support to others.
The study concludes that organizations related to Koxinga help cultivate a foundation of social cohesion and solidarity, which is conducive to the accumulation and application of social capital. Both organizational actors and government agencies should address issues of exclusivity and group differentiation based on relational closeness. Future research is encouraged to examine sustainable urban regeneration, strengthen the integration of cultural resources with community-building initiatives, and explore deeper collaboration between government agencies and local organizations.
