In the current rapidly evolving technological environment, the focus of a favorable workplace is gradually changing. The values and needs of employees continue to adjust, placing emphasis on self-efficacy, self-determination, and the recognition and support received in the workplace. Traditional leadership approaches are no longer sufficient in meeting the evolving demands of the workplace; hence, the respectful leadership style has gained increasing attention. Respectful leaders exhibit behaviors that honor their subordinates, viewing them as equal and independent individuals. Additionally, in terms of work values, employees increasingly prioritize the meaning of their work and the impact they can make as individuals in the workplace. Therefore, this study focuses on the trends in leadership styles in the current workplace and the characteristics and needs of employee, aiming to delve into the impact of respectful leadership on psychological empowerment and job performance.
This study collected 625 questionnaires, with 460 valid after excluding 165 invalid ones. Statistical software, SPSS 26.0 and SmartPLS (V4.0.9.6) were utilized for data analysis. The results indicate respectful leadership positively impacts various aspects of employee psychological empowerment, including meaning, competence, self-determination, and impact. Competence and self-determination have positive effects on task performance. Meaning, competence, and impact have positive effects on contextual performance. Respectful leadership has a positive indirect impact on task performance through competence and self-determination, and it also has a positive indirect impact on contextual performance through meaning, competence, and impact in the workplace.
