The goal of this study is to guide storytelling theories (3-act structure and paradigm) into digital content service (DCS) development, discussing storytelling concept application in DCS design through cognitive theories that focus on affects at the user level (emotional reaction and behavior). The result is to develop an interdisciplinary collaboration (design, technology, and commerce) development model and design methods, which in turn make the storytelling theories applicable in DCS-related industries and academic institutions.
The literature review is focused in four areas: story concept and development, story and design cognitions, storytelling involved design application status, and design related theories of a creative interdisciplinary collaboration development teamwork. Through case study, interview, observation research methods, and author participation in the project development based on the five phases of the DCSICD (Digital Content Service Interdisciplinary Collaboration Development) model: Concept development, Technology development, Production, Evaluation and Modification, and In-market, examining related design issues and strategies of storytelling application in each phase.
The purpose of this research is to investigate the relevance between DCS and the storytelling concept, and its inspiration for application in the interaction design field. On the basis of practice of interdisciplinary teamwork, a storytelling involved DCS design process is proposed, and design strategies are addressed for application in each phase of the development process. This research is expected to contribute in the field of interaction design by presenting explicit theoretical applications of storytelling.
