Over the past years, the rapid growth in the new strategic alliances has become an important strategic tool to all enterprise. Through strategic alliances, enterprise would be beneficial in various ways which include economy of scale, economy of scope, marketing, new knowledge, market penetration, state-of-the-art technology and etc. However, why some of the members in the alliances manage to exploit more value appropriation from the alliances and what are the main roots cause the results? Both are my major research in my academic thesis.
My research tries to develop the hypotheses from the perspectives of both “Transaction Cost Theory” and “Resource Dependant Theory” besides exploring the factors affecting the value appropriation, supporting with the cases of steel industries in Taiwan. Furthermore, with dynamic point of view, the research has added “absorptive capability” as a moderator variable, whereby I try to find the effect caused by the variables, whether it plays a significant characteristic in strengthening the relation between all independent and dependent variables as anticipated.
The results of the research indicate that:
    1. “Rich Information” has partly significant positive effects towards “Value Appropriation”.
    2. “Trust” has significant positive effects towards “Value Appropriation”.
    3. “Bargaining Power” has significant positive effects towards “Value Appropriation”.
    4. “Scarcity of Resources” has significant positive effects towards “Value Appropriation”.
    5. “Absorptive Capability” only has significant moderating effects towards “Trust”、“Bargaining Power” and “Scarcity of Resources” in the aspect of value appropriation.
