Due to the highly competitive environment and rapid change in technology, companies should keep learning and differentiate themselves from others to survive and grow in this era. More and more companies involved in inter-firm cooperation try to reduce the time and costs they spent in acquiring knowledge and new product development. In this way, they can get complementary resource and skills they lack in-house. This is so called “relationship learning.” This research is aimed at investigating the antecedents of relationship learning and find out how relationship learning influences new product development performance (NPD performance). At last, I used technological uncertainty and similarity in organizational cultures as moderators to find out how they moderate the influence of relationship learning on NPD performance.
In empirical study, I distributed 200 questionnaires to Taiwanese suppliers and retrieved 146 valid questionnaires at last. I used it to process descriptive statistics, factor analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression.
The major finding of this research are listed as follow: (1) Trust and strategic fit have positive effect on relationship learning; (2) Relationship learning has a positive effect on NPD performance; (3) Technological uncertainty and similarity in organizational cultures can accelerate the positive effect of relationship learning on NPD performance. At the end of this research, I propose the managerial implications and some advices for future research according to the results.
