層疊是一種建築對土地的態度，將建築與土地視為兩不同的地層，互不相融亦互不相斥，建築以刻意不諧調的姿態與土地層疊並置，著意於「其間」，以期出現新與舊、人造與自然的空間張力。本論文以層疊為主要設計概念，開發台南市北郊具有都市邊緣與生態敏感區雙重特質的漁塭地做為生態住宅區。

設計包含兩個部份，第一部分研究分析南台灣常見三種傳統住屋類型：合院、街屋以及公寓的空間結構，以開放式建築的設計理論進行住宅區開發之類型管制與涵容居住行為的多樣性，並發展規劃格網作為大區域規劃的工具。第二部份討論規劃語法，發展混合三種住屋類型的街廓，與基地漁塭紋理層疊並置，本設計並非致力於發展水上住宅的形式，而是著意於水陸競合之境。

This study introduces a design idea of layering, which attempts to provide new vision of development on sensitive land. The idea stresses that built form and land are treated as two separated layers, neither integrates nor repelling to each other, so as to create a tension relation between the two, emphasizing the in-between characters as displayed by the parallel of the old and new, the artificial and nature. The site for this design study is a field of fish ponds located at the fringe of Tainan city, which is planned to develop an ecologically responsive residential district.

The design proceeds with two parts. The first part illustrates a series of design operations to study the spatial structure of three main house types of the local culture: the courtyard house, shop house and the walk-up apartment. By systematic analyses of the dimensional structure of these three types, a planning grid system is formulated as a tool for exploring site layout variations. The second part of the design proposes a site plan scheme by juxtapositioning the built layer of residential blocks of mixing house types, with the open layer of spaces that mainly incorporate the textual of the original fish ponds. It is the aura, not the figure, of floating forms on the water guides this design pursuit.
