Social innovation, platforms, design thinking, and value co-creation are the focal point of all kinds of industries in recent decades. With the development of platforms and co-creation, companies begin to combine resources to keep up with the trends and achieve cross-domain innovation. However, it is rarely discussed with a platform co-creation perspective, also there is insufficient research on the interaction relationship between these four theories. For practicality, platform development mainly focuses on social, brand or transaction carriers, and pays less attention to the operation of social co-creation campaigns.
Therefore, this research takes 5% Design Action as a study case. Through an analysis of in-depth interviews and collected data, the practical background is gradually constructed. With the theories perspective of social innovation, platform, design thinking, and value co-creation, further analyzes how the case uses its platform to connect the participants of co-creation activities and amplify the impact with network characteristics. Finally, those created solutions aim to solve social problems and promote the development of social innovation.
In conclusion, social enterprise platforms need a vision and a mutually beneficial operating model to attract participants. Research shows that using innovation tools to lead diverse background co-creation activities can increase transparency and effectiveness. During the co-creation process, participants create and capture value through the platform's design and governance mechanisms.
