This study constructs a two-echelon model to investigate the profitability of the firm who actively recycles used products and then sells remanufactured ones in the market. The new product for market sales is investigated at the first stage, and the recycling of the used product and selling of the new and remanufactured ones simultaneously at the second stage. This study also considers consumer utility and the product life cycle to estimate the remaining value of the product, and then evaluate the probability of product return. In the consumer return behavior situation, we provide two different product collection approaches (i)fixed point recycling (ii)continuous period recycling, and using trade-in rebates to attract consumers to return products. This study investigates the firm’s profit for remanufacturing the used product. In comparing the two different collection scenarios, we can show that the product age, collection cost and cost saving have great impact which influence the firm’s profit.
