本研究以殖民的角度切入對澳門的都市形態，特別是路網的演變進行探討。在澳門的近代都市發展史中，五十年內經歷了殖民時期、過渡時期及後殖民時期，土地面積、產業變遷、城鄉發展受博彩產業影響迎來大幅度的變遷。面對跨領域的研究缺口，本研究選擇了四個不同時期開發、不同尺度的研究範圍作為探討之對象，包括雀仔園坊、新口岸新填海區、氹仔舊城區、氹仔新市鎮，試圖歸納澳門殖民背景對都市形態發展的影響，並歸納澳門的殖民色彩及特色，特別是世遺歷史城區較「不起眼」的街區。研究方法上以質化與量化混合的方法進行，量化方法使用空間型構法則及相關軟體進行對路網的軸線圖分析，另一方面透過歷史資料進行詮釋。
本研究包括對殖民主義、後殖民都市主義、殖民都市形態學等殖民相關理論作文獻回顧，當中引用了傅柯 (1977) 對權力與規訓、黃子倫 (2021) 對異質城市、快速的治理政策、Richard & Patrick (2017) 整合的拼湊式都會區等理論，其中Mowla (2000) 在殖民都市形態學所提出的空間分隔、種族隔離所演變的空間等，為本研究提供重要的論述依據，研究者欲驗證以上理論是否出現於澳門的都市結構及脈絡中，以及其所呈現之現象。首先從更大尺度的都市整體發展及治理政策開始，再逐漸聚焦至各研究範圍在歷代政府下的都市發展脈絡，進而從時間軸比對殖民宗主國葡萄牙的政策，彙整推論及進行詮釋。本研究使用的資料，可以據以探討不同時期政府對地方治理的政策及觀值觀的轉變，探討其如何影響了澳門的規劃、定位及都市風貌。
本研究得出以下發現：
1. 澳門與葡萄牙在都市的相似點，包括當代流行的都市規劃手法及環繞衛生及填海為主之政策，尤其是山城的意象及都市化的概念，為澳門引入當代前瞻的棋盤狀街道，其次亦包括街道設計元素、道路層級。
2. 本研究驗證了「權力—空間」關係在澳門的都市結構中出現，澳門的街區中有出現在殖民制度下的空間劃分，主要按照產業、人種及宗教進行區分；在殖民時期下的新開闢街區透過整合度分析發現皆為當時都市較邊陲的地帶，並在一百年內變成都市核心，體現澳門極大的都市風貌變遷；二十世紀初期葡萄牙人的都市擴張重點以填海造陸為主，同時葡萄牙與澳門在都市化的進程相差接近四十年。
3. 後殖民時期的澳門改變其定位與粵港澳大灣區共同發展，並大量引入博彩產業，取代計畫中原有的商貿用途；街道層級因而發展成超大量體，缺乏街道生活感。大街區的路名亦改以中國城市或中國政治人物命名，「去殖化」現象逐漸出現。

This research examines the urban morphology of Macau through the lens of colonialism, with a particular focus on the transformation of its street networks. Over the course of fifty years, Macau has undergone significant transitions through colonial, transitional, and postcolonial phases. These shifts driven by spatial industrial restructuring, and the rise of the gaming industry, have engendered profound transformations in land use and urban development. Addressing a cross-disciplinary research gap, this study selects four spatially and temporally distinct areas as case studies, including Horta de Mitra, NAPE, the Old Taipa Village, and Taipa New Town. The objective is to distill the influence of colonial legacies on urban form and to articulate the latent colonial characteristics embedded within Macau’s spatial fabric, particularly in the lesser-known peripheral zones beyond the UNESCO World Heritage core.
The study concludes with several key findings:
a) Macau shares urbanistic parallels with Portugal, including contemporaneous planning doctrines emphasizing sanitation and land reclamation. The conceptualization of the city as a "hill town" and the adoption of gridiron street patterns exemplify a transfer of metropolitan planning ideals, also include hierarchical road networks and street design typologies.
b) The study affirms the presence of Foucauldian "power-space" relations within Macau’s urban structure. Under colonial rule, spatial divisions were constructed along industrial, ethnic, and religious lines. Spatial integration analyses reveal that districts initially established at the urban fringe eventually emerged as central urban zones, exemplifying the dynamic evolution of urban centrality. Portuguese-led urban expansion in the early 20th century was dominantly driven by land reclamation, and the timeline of urbanization in Portugal and Macau demonstrates a divergence of approximately four decades.
c) In the postcolonial era, Macau’s urban positioning realigned with the Greater Bay Area’s regional integration strategy, with the gaming industry supplanting earlier commercial visions. This resulted in the emergence of large-scale urban blocks with diminished street-level vitality. The renaming of major thoroughfares after Chinese cities and political figures signals a growing "decolonization" of urban nomenclature and symbolism.
