建築設計所涵蓋的範圍很廣，上至龐大的都市、下至最微小環節的傢俱，不同層級的堆疊強化了設計的深度。本論文試以不同於以往的觀點重新詮釋市場空間，再現傳統市場的特殊氣質。設計中所有可能觸及到的議題，包括：氛圍營造、環控控制、構造與結構等，各不同專業領域的結合與應用形塑出了市場最後的面貌，也可視為一次完整設計歷程的展現。

論文可分為以下三個部份：

壹、市場：

首先由「都市記號」談起，定位市場在都市中的角色；接著將範圍縮小至市場本身，理出存在傳統市場內的各項特質，作為設計習作上的參考；最後再進入到傢俱層級，發展一系列市場實體設計的研究。（一至四章）

貳、系統化：

於混亂中理出秩序，便是「系統化」的概念，但過度控制也使市場流於單調，對此本論文提出了新的觀點－「由繁化簡，再由簡化繁」，在一定的規範之下又同時保留了傳統市場該有的豐富度。（第五章）

參、設計與評估：

最後將各階段所發展的概念予以整合，並逐一對應到設計實作中，建立起整個市場架構。選定東門圓環與橋頭老街旁的兩座市場進行示範設計，測試系統的可行性。（六至十章）

「恆」與「變」一直是本論文所討論的重點，兩者間的關係轉換是設計最精采的體現，亦是引發整個市場設計的關鍵。設計者在探討設計的過程中，其所經歷的一切情感思緒，也如同市場於系統化中不斷「由繁化簡，由簡入繁」的變動歷程，是一場內心自我的探尋與辯證。

The knowledge of architectural design is very extensive, ranged from urban level to architectural level and furthering furniture level. To combine different levels will enrich the depth of the design. The representation of spirits and the unique atmosphere of the vernacular market, from varied viewpoints, is the core of the thesis. The appearance of a neoteric market, we hope, emerges gradually via this studies and professional operations such as atmosphere imitating, environmental control, structure and construction.

This thesis includes three parts as follows:

1. Market

First, to dissert the concept of ‘Urban Mark’ and try to figure out the position of the market in the city; second, to extract the substantial characters from vernacular markets as the reference tool of design; finally, to develop the design from the level of furniture into a series of practical market studies. (From Chapter 1 to 4)

2. Systematization

To figure out the ‘order’ from a mess, to prevent the dullness of regularity, and to establish a new concept of ‘Systematization’－complexity to simplicity and simplicity to complexity. (Chapter 5)

3. Design and Valuation

To integrate the conceptual development by phases and put the guideline into practice; to build the framework of this project; to demonstrate my idea in two sites - Don-Men Circle and Ciaotou Old Street thru which to show the eligibility of this proposal. (From Chapter 6 to 10)

The shift between ‘Change’ and ‘Permanence’ is the key point to make the vernacular market work in a brilliant way, and it is also the most essential part in the architectural design work. The dialectic process of ‘complexity to simplicity and simplicity to complexity’ in Systematization is also an intellectual play.
