  • Sexuality is a neglected issue for women after breast cancer treatments. Many literatures revealed inconsistent results regarding to sexual problems after treatments. Different dimensions of sexuality was examined in different studies. Women with Islam religion maintained the Islamic modesty make women reluctant to express the sexual problem. The purpose of this study was to examine the sexual problems in terms of different dimensions and identify the related factors among women with breast cancer in Indonesia. A cross-sectional with convenience sampling was used in this study. Women diagnosed with breast cancer in Indonesia who already finish surgery and adjuvant treatments and without cancer metastasis or recurrence were recruited. A structured questionnaire including Body Image Scale (BIS) and Relationship and Sexuality Scale (RSS) was administered after getting informed consent.
Body image (p <.05) and post-treatment time (p <.05) were able to predict sexuality in total. Post-treatment time (p <.05) was the predictors of sexual satisfaction, body image (p <.05) was the factor to predict sexual relationship and sexual difficulties among women with breast cancer in Indonesia.
Body image, post-treatment time, and sexual satisfaction before treatments were able to predict sexuality among women with breast cancer in Indonesia. The treatment education by using pamphlet or brochure about side effects of breast cancer treatments in specific issues such as sexual problems, body image disturbance, psychological distress, and how to solve those problems were needed to increase patient and partner awareness and understanding.
