As Taiwan approaches a "super-aged society" by 2025, elderly individuals face not only medical but also emotional and social challenges. This underscores the growing importance of healing environments. In this context, day care centers, as vital community infrastructure, are crucial for enhancing quality of life.
This study surveyed 34 day care centers in Tainan and Kaohsiung, collecting 540 valid responses—primarily from a 2023 authorized survey, supplemented by additional questionnaires. Hierarchical regression was used to examine key indicators of perceived healing and to explore mediating mechanisms. In addition, a total of 20 day care centers were analyzed using Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) to visualize their perceptual positioning.
The healing indicators identified in this study include "Natural Elements," "Spatial Aesthetics," "Building Space Scale," "Space Planning," "Respect and Autonomy," "Social Support and Interaction," and "Promotion of Health and Safety." Results show that "Respect and Autonomy," "Spatial Aesthetics," and "Social Support and Interaction" significantly impact healing perception and are key priorities for experts. While "Natural Elements" were not deemed a key indicator, they still contribute to emotional well-being.
Furthermore, based on the perceptual map, this study categorized the 20 centers into four competitive clusters: "Supportive Humanistic Care Facilities," "Potential Facilities," "New High-Efficiency Facilities," and "Comprehensive Multifaceted Facilities." The "Supportive Humanistic Care Facilities" group, including centers W07, W08, X02, S01, and S02, showed superior objective performance. This study also proposed targeted strategies tailored to the specific needs of each center.
