鐵窗花是戰後台灣街屋與民宅常見的建築立面元素，兼具防護與裝飾功能，亦反映地方審美、生活經驗與工藝技術。其發展與近代金屬構件技術的引入、戰後鋼鐵材料供應穩定，以及住宅防護需求提升有關；自 1990 年代起，隨著不鏽鋼窗、鋁窗與都市更新的普及，傳統鐵窗花逐漸自城市景觀中消失。

相較於其他城市，台南保留大量不同時期的街屋建築與歷史街道，鐵窗花不僅分布廣泛，在紋樣形式與工藝細節上亦更為豐富，成為觀察戰後建築裝飾的重要對象。既有研究多偏重影像紀錄、形式分類或歷史描述，少有整合性分析視角。

因此，本研究以台南府城鐵窗花為研究對象，建立一套跨尺度分析架構，從空間分布、紋樣類型與工藝知識，重新理解鐵窗花作為建築裝飾之意涵。探討以下三項問題：鐵窗花分布如何對應台南都市紋理？其紋樣與構成能否建立可重複檢核的類型架構？其形式生成又如何受到材料、尺度與製作條件的影響？

研究方法以田野調查與疊圖分析，檢視鐵窗花點位分布與城市紋理之關聯；透過紋樣與構成分析，從類型學角度討論裝飾與文化符號；藉由鐵工師傅訪談，從材料、尺度與製作，進一步闡明鐵窗花作為建築裝飾所承載的工藝價值與文化符號象徵。

研究結果顯示鐵窗花的分布並非隨機，而是高度集中於開發較早的歷史街廓，可作為辨識舊街廓與戰後街區生成的空間線索。透過類型矩陣分析，可以對照鐵窗花的紋樣大多以複合元素搭配格狀分割或規律排列為主要構成方式，其裝飾性始終與窗框尺度、防護需求及立面秩序相互影響。鐵窗花不只是可被觀看的建築裝飾，更是工匠在材料規格、製作技法、人體尺度與視覺美感之間反覆協商的成果。本研究認為鐵窗花為戰後結合城市紋理、建築裝飾與工藝知識的文化符號。

Iron window grilles are common facade elements in post-war Taiwanese townhouses, serving both protective and decorative functions while reflecting local aesthetics and craftsmanship. Their development was closely associated with the increasing availability of steel materials after World War II and the growing demand for residential security in Taiwan. Since the 1990s, however, traditional iron window grilles have gradually disappeared from urban areas with the widespread adoption of stainless-steel grilles and renovations.
Compared with other cities in Taiwan, Tainan preserves townhouses and historical streets from different periods. Iron window grilles are not only widely distributed throughout Tainan but also demonstrate diverse patterns, making them an important subject for understanding post-war architectural ornament.
Unlike previous studies that mainly focus on visual documentation or historical background, this study proposes a multi-scale framework to examine iron window grilles as architectural ornament through three dimensions: spatial distribution, pattern typology, and craftsmanship. The research methods include field surveys, mapping analysis, typological studies, and interviews with blacksmiths.
The findings show that the distribution of iron window grilles is not random, but highly concentrated in earlier-developed historic blocks, making them clues to the continuity of old urban fabric and the formation of post-war neighborhoods. Typological matrix analysis further indicates that most grilles are composed of multi-elements with regular division, revealing how ornament is shaped by window scale, security needs, and facade order.
This study argues that iron window grilles are cultural symbols integrating urban fabric, architectural ornament, and craftsmanship in post-war Tainan.
