This study explores the features and applications of the cellulose products, with the goal of achieving recycling and value enhancement of agricultural waste. In this research we use bamboo as the source of cellulose and aims to improve its processability and utility. To achieve the goals, we provide two methods in this work including (1) eliminating crystallization of cellulose and (2) converting cellulose into bio-based chemicals.
By the first method we successfully fabricated regenerated cellulose films and the stress of the specimen reached 130 MPa, along with 15% in elongation. For the second experiment, we investigated the conditions for preparing HMF (5-Hydroxymethylfurfural) using fructose or glucose as feedstocks. In continuous reaction process, the final HMF yield can reach 95% with fructose as feedstock & 45% with glucose as feedstocks.
