本研究在於呈現由抽象情境轉化為實體空間的發展過程。藉由相關的論述與史料，整合出一種可能的設計方案。

在網際網路與全球化的發展下，極大化成為當今的趨勢，個人存在的意義式微。人活在外在社會所賦予的價值觀中，自我認同與社會認同混肴，失去了對自我本質的意識。孤獨能夠使人自覺，然而過度發展的社會關係使得獨處在現今的生活中難以擁有。因此，本研究之題目為設計一個沉靜之家。孤獨出於自然是基本之見解，進而探討靜謐的場所與氣質。

本論文分為四個部份：
一、孤獨的本質
從理論與案例來探討孤獨的定義。孤獨是人擁有自我意識，與身為一個個體存在的基礎，是讓人跳脫社會價值而得到自證的一條途徑。

二、孤獨的場所
從修道主義與隱修院來探討孤獨的空間。簡單質樸的環境，讓人專注於內在的精神生活。隱修院以分隔與視覺控制的方法，來達到與外界隔離的目的創造孤獨的空間。

三、孤獨的氛圍
從信仰與自然的關係來探討孤獨的氣質。孤獨與信仰，都是在追求內在的平靜，而兩者共同的觸媒，就是自然。孤獨的氣質來自於自然的靜謐。

四、孤獨的再現
設計的發展過程與結果呈現。

This thesis is a presentation of the development process of an abstract concept to concrete space. The design projects will be based on relative literatures and historical references.

Since maximization is a rising trend today under the expansion of the Internet and globalization, the individual being is weakened. People live in the values of external society, confusing personal identity with social identity and losing awareness of inner essence. Solitude enables self-consciousness, but it is hard to be alone in the modern life because of overwhelming social contact. Therefore, the subject of this thesis is to design a home of silence. “Solitude comes from Nature” is the basic insight and then research the place and atmosphere of silence.

There are four chapters in this thesis:
1. The Entity of Solitude:
Define the entity of solitude from theories and case studies. Humans are self-consciousness and individuality because the essence of human beings is solitude, and it is also the way to gain identity from social values.
2. The Place of Solitude:
Study the place of solitude from Monasticism and monasteries. Simple and plain space helps one to focus on inner spiritual life. Divide and vision control are used in monastery to reach the intention of separate from the outside world and create a solitary space.
3. The Aura of Solitude:
Study the aura of solitude. Both solitude and belief are pursuits of peace and Nature is the origin of them. The quality of solitude comes from the silence of Nature.
4. The Representation of Solitude:
Present the process and outcome of the design work.
