As a result of recent advancements in technology and the Internet, people now rely on the Internet and search engines such as Google more than ever before. It is very convenient to get information, so users can be easily satisfied. The key issue now is finding a method by which to manage this information systematically and in an organized way. Therefore, virtual communities have been developed for the purpose of providing useful platforms by which users can obtain information and transform it into knowledge, and this is how a knowledge community works.
It is very important to develop knowledge communities because of their quality and the quantity of information that can be made available. However, knowledge sharing may not happen by itself. Actually, it depends on many factors including external factors that will stimulate members to share their knowledge, which is a key issue related to community knowledge.
First of all, some studies have only claimed one position on either side of this issue (either the Micro view or the Macro view), but my study focus on the application of Symbolic Convergence Theory and Conflict Theory and aim to explore the topic of community knowledge with both the Micro view and Macro view.
In this research, a total of 359 questionnaires are distributed. By applying structural equation modeling to analyze the data, the study shows that both shared language and shared emotional connection have a positive influence on both the quality and quantity of knowledge. Also, a sense of community is found to positively influence knowledge sharing behavior in a community. In conclusion, this study provides academic and useful suggestions for reference and the further research directions for extension.
