荷蘭畫家文生 ̇梵谷(Vincent van Gogh,1853-1890)與挪威畫家愛德華 ̇孟 克(Edvard Munch,1863-1944)兩位現代藝術的先驅,在兩位著名的作品中皆表 現出焦慮不安感,這份感受是來自現代社會靈魂的最真切表現。
本研究剖析兩位畫家的生長背景、十九世紀末文學的影響與世紀之交的現代社會變革,發現兩位畫家又同時受到現代思潮與異鄉社會環境的刺激,進而探討關於兩人在不同地方發展出相似的藝術思維之緣由。比較分析兩位畫家最具有代表性的作品風格中可以發現皆具有動態感及變形的風貌,從兩位畫家的作品中發現,畫面上皆具有莫名的不安,這份不安包含了現代性主體的焦慮不安、社會疏離的現象與對客觀真實的質疑。
本研究以現代社會的變遷為主軸貫穿孟克與梵谷的私人經歷、作品與藝術理念,由此分析現代社會的焦慮在孟克與梵谷畫作上的表現,以歷史文獻研究法、藝術社會學及風格分析研究法進行分析,希望可藉此研究及反思現代性社會下人類對己及對外關係的變動。

The purpose of the study was to discuss on modernity how to emerge on art works of Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) and Norwegian painter Edvard Munch (1863-1944). Both of the artists are pioneer of Modern Art.
Modern society impacts not only on material level but ideological level. Furthermore, modern western spiritual crisis was disclosing. Anxiety from their soul appears on art works.
This thesis discusses on Van Gogh and Munch through their personal experience, philosophy and art works when modern society changing. And analyze anxiety of modernity on Munch and Van Gogh paintings performance by historical research, sociology of art and style analysis. The study findings may serve to reflect on changes in modern society relations.
