《伊麗莎白》音樂劇改編自奧地利國王弗蘭茨·約瑟夫一世 (Franz Joseph I) 與巴伐利亞公國公主伊麗莎白 (Elisabeth) 的生平故事。本劇富有奧匈帝國當時的時代性，配以演員在劇中所刻畫的人物形象、情感的刻寫，讓觀眾從該劇中身處奧匈帝國的時代感受到真實的Sissi公主，與她同歡樂、同痛苦。
　　《伊麗莎白》的意義絕不止於一部「人物傳記」音樂劇。創作者的野心相當宏大，將皇后個人的悲劇和世紀之交的奧匈帝國以至大德意志文化圈的悲劇隱秘地聯繫在一起，達到了一種伊麗莎白與國家民族共存亡的狀態，以至於這作品蘊含了某種「私人／歷史的二重性」的特質。
　　本文欲通過梳理當時的歷史背景、時代背景、文化背景來增加對《伊麗莎白》的瞭解，並梳理戲劇中人物形象，結合舞臺的呈現，對比分析《伊麗莎白》的故事情節與真實歷史的關聯性，來探討創作者的創作目的，同時希望通過對當時背景的梳理，總結出《伊麗莎白》受歡迎的原因，讓更多的人感受到它的魅力所在。

The musical Elizabeth is adapted from the life story of Austrian King Franz Joseph I and Princess Elizabeth of the Principality of Bavaria. The play is full of the times of the Austro Hungarian Empire at that time, coupled with the characters and emotions portrayed by the actors in the play, so that the audience can feel the real Sissi princess from the time when the play was in the Austro Hungarian Empire, and share her joy and pain.
　　The significance of Elizabeth is not limited to a "biography" musical. The creator's ambition is quite ambitious, secretly connecting the Queen's personal tragedy with the tragedy of the Austro Hungarian Empire at the turn of the century and even the great German cultural circle, reaching a state of Elizabeth's co existence with the country and nation, so that this work contains some characteristics of "private / historical duality".
