全球電子廢棄物大量湧入二仁溪下游，淘金浪潮帶來了可觀的財富累積，同時造成了嚴重的環境汙染，仍遺留在溪岸的電子廢棄物是最直接的物證。然而，資本邏輯主導的論述使其逐漸被政府和大眾忽視，已顯疲態的環境議題如何維持抗爭能量？本研究以考古學探討當代環境議題，基於批判資本主義和遺產視野的問題指認，建立參與式的考古行動策略，採取地表調查、鑽探調查、考古發掘、遺物分析、土壤分析、深度訪談等方法，「再遺產化」二仁溪的廢五金產業及其汙染圖像。
本研究重新梳理廢五金發展脈絡外，針對現況的相關研究顯示二仁溪的電子廢棄物汙染問題相當嚴重，亟待被重視和處理。而作為當代考古學的研究，表明考古學直面當代的環境議題困境，能夠積極展現潛在的社會力量和價值。

The electronic waste from the globe world flew into the Erren River, where then became the industrial area of processing scrap metal. But the gold rushes had not only brought the great wealth, but also the serious environmental pollution which was proved by the electronic waste scattering on the banks of the river. However, the memory of environmental pollution caused by the scrap metal industry had been gradually erased by the discourse of capitalist logic. How can we maintain enough energy to wrestle with this ongoing pollution and environmental issue? The ultimate concern of archaeology was the lives of human beings which naturally extended to the contemporary time. The study employed archaeology to explore contemporary environmental issue from the perspective of criticism of capitalism as well as the concept of heritage. In order to "re-heritagisation" the scrap metal industry and its pollution of the Erren River, I designed a participatory archaeological action, including surface survey, drilling, excavation, remains analysis, soil analysis, and in-depth interviews.
The results of soil and material analysis indicated that the pollution of Erren River was severe. This environmental issue could not be taken lightly, and we must take actions as soon as possible. As a contemporary archaeological study, this research showed that archaeology could address contemporary environmental issues and actively demonstrating its potential of social influence.
