自工業革命後，都市的快速發展導致人口大量湧入都市，社會、文化變遷加劇，以致於都市發展問題激增。在經濟與效率導向的驅使下，促使功能主義的規劃模式盛行，造成都市空間自明性與認同感的缺乏，使得都市形態構成缺乏社會向心力與歷史延續的支撐，造成社會文化脈絡的斷層。觀察現今種種都市形態理論之採行，皆具其缺漏與弊病，同時難以符合各地區之不同需要。故本研究的目的，欲以另一種新的角度來重新看待現有的“都市設計”架構，進一步提出一套檢視現今都市發展狀況的看法與作法；自今日都市研究中，乏於探討的都市形態與空間做為探討主軸，由實質環境為切入面向，完整的展現一個針對特定的時間、空間及使用者的新都市設計過程。

本研究以Alexander所提出之都市“診察”與“治療”的概念為基點，將其轉換為對於都市有機環境的一種閱讀與書寫。透過都市形態相關理論的分析探討，歸納整理出主要論述之內涵架構，自街道、空間與建築三大面向之形、義與文法，提出指認研究，同時針對各論述於組成環境三大要素之人、空間與時間的相互關係影響加以釐清，作為本研究理論操作之引導與依據；進一步對於“好的都市形態”理論涵構加以蒐集整合，作為檢視既有環境之依據。期望藉此做為未來都市更新與社區改造發展與革新之借鏡，擴展日後都市設計於既有都市環境中所採取的看法與作法，改正檢討現行之都市設計缺乏方法與價值判斷之缺漏。

After industrial revolution, there were a lot of people crowding into urban area result from the quick development of city, and the change of society and culture aggravate the increase on the problem of urban development. Under the driving force oriented toward economics and efficiency, urging the functionalism being in vogue; thus, this situation caused the lack of space identity and identification, and made urban form lose centripetal force of our society and support of history, and brought faults in the vein of the social culture. There are flaws and defects to observe all kinds of urban theories, and it’s hard to meet different need of every areas. So the objective of this research is to review the structure of “urban design” in this day from another fresh point of view, and suggest a set of perspective and solution to examine the status of urban development nowadays; therefore, we take the undiscussed urban form and space from these urban research at modern times as the main shaft to confer, and the physical environment as the direction to get into, and present a new process of urban design completely aiming to the specific time, space and user.

This research bases on the concept of urban “diagnosis” and ”repair” suggested by Alexander, and transforms this thought into a sort of reading and writing about urban organic environment. Through analyzing related theories of urban form, we’ll come up with the main frame, and propose identifying research on the basis of shape、meaning and grammar from building、streets and space, meanwhile, figure out the relationship between person、space and time which are the three major element constitute environment for the guide and fundamental of this research; and further, collect and integrate the theory of “good city form” as the fundamental to view the present environment. Therefore, we hope this research could be the example of urban renew and community redevelopment in the future, and extend the viewpoints and techniques adopted by urban designer to the present city environment, consequently, we can correct the disadvantages of urban design which are lack of method and value judgment in this days.
