本論文討論的是歐洲文豪但丁(Dante Alighieri 1265-1321)的地獄觀念形塑的過程。身處於中世紀與文藝復興交接之時的但丁，其地獄觀念無疑受到前人的影響極深，在吸納了古往今來的思想元素後，成為了歐洲地獄觀念的集大成者。
　　人類的歷史本來就是一種集體的想像，而地獄更是難以言明及會意的議題，因此選取具有指標性的人物與著作就顯得格外重要。本論文將選取以下幾部宗教與文學的經典著作，分別是《吉爾迦美什史詩》、希臘神話、《聖經》、《上帝之城》、《神學大全》，作為觀察但丁地獄觀念形塑的整體脈絡，並以《神曲（Divina Comedia）》作為結論點。事實上《神曲》可說是融合了但丁本人與以前的人們與著作對地獄想像的集合，不僅可作為觀察當時基督教的趨向，還能對歐洲的地獄觀做總體回顧。

This thesis discusses the process of shaping the concept of hell of Dante Alighieri (1265-1321). Dante, who lived at the time between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, his concept of hell was undoubtedly deeply influenced by the predecessors. After absorbing the elements of the past and the present, his viewpoint of hell became to the common view in Europe.
The history of mankind is a collective imagination, and hell is an issue that is difficult to explain and understand. Therefore, it is particularly important and necessary to select some influential materials to discuss.
This thesis will select the following religious writings and classic literature, namely Epic of Gilgamesh , Greek mythology, Bible, De Civitate Dei , Summa Theologica, as an overall context for observing the concept of Dante's hell, lastly, with Divina Commedia as the conclusion. In fact, " Divina Commedia " can be said to be a collection of the imagination of Dante himself and previous people’s thought, not only as a tendency to observe Christianity at the time, but also a general review of the view of hell in Europe.
