  • 本篇研究探討,當面臨大陸紅色供應鏈挑戰,台灣IC設計公司是否會採取增額投入研究發展支出策略加以因應,我們以台灣IC設計公司做為樣本,並同時將研究樣本區分為高研發投入型IC設計公司與低研發投入型IC設計公司,測試不同特性之IC設計公司面對2011年大陸紅色供應鏈影響較強烈時點之後,其研發支出活動投入情形,研究結果顯示,以IC設計公司為樣本,其異常研究發展支出和時間變數呈現負相關,說明台灣IC設計公司處於紅色供應鏈影響之後,企業將減少研究發展支出,此部分和我們的假說預期不符,我們接著將研究樣本區分為高研發投入型IC設計公司與低研發投入型IC設計公司,並對其進行測試,結果與我們的假說預期一致,當低研發型IC設計公司面對紅色供應鏈挑戰,其將採取增額投入更多研究發展支出加以因應,本篇研究有別於先前大部分文獻僅探討研究發展支出的投入績效與市場價值反映,本文針對特定事件是否會影響企業在研究發展活動的投入做一探討。

    This study examines whether IC (integrated circuit) design firms increase R&D investments in the face of the challenge of China's red supply chain. We use IC design firms as our sample and estimate their abnormal R&D expenditures (ABRD) based on an expectation R&D model. Then, we test if Taiwanese IC design firms increase their abnormal R&D expenditures after the rise of red supply chain. Our results show that IC design firms decreased their research and development expenses (R&D) after the initiation of China’s red supply chain, which is contrary to our hypothesis. However, when we classify our sample into two groups based on R&D intensity, we find that firms with lower R&D intensity will invest more R&D expense to increase their competitiveness necessary to face the impact of China’s red supply chain. This indicates that red supply chain only pose a serious threat to Taiwanese IC design firms with lower R&D intensity. Distinct from previous studies, this research focus on IC design firms’ R&D activities by examining the influence of external events.
