美國麻省理工學院媒體實驗室創建之父尼葛洛龐帝（Nicholas Negroponte）曾預言：「EIP（嵌入式智慧平台）的應用將是繼PC與Internet之後最偉大的發明。」誠如尼葛洛龐帝所預測的，伴隨著「後PC時代」的到來，嵌入式系統及其應用儼然已經成為當下研究與應用的重點，如今嵌入式系統早已滲透到我們日常生活的各個角落，舉凡遊戲機、行動通訊產品、影音設備等個人行動配備，或是運輸系統以及工廠的自動控制設備，隨處可見嵌入式系統的應用，而醫療、智慧型辦公室、資訊家電，以及數位消費產品等等應用，更是脫離不了嵌入式系統的範疇。

　　本論文研究並實作一嵌入式視訊擷取系統；硬體方面以TI（德州儀器）的TMS320DM270為開發平台，搭配uClinux作業系統，其承襲Linux的諸多優點，並發展相關硬體所需的驅動程式以及應用程式，建構一套擷取、壓縮、儲存的視訊系統架構。

　　Embedded intelligent products would be the greatest invention succeeding PC and Internet, predicted by Nicholas Negroponte, director of MIT’s Media Lab. As what Negroponte predicts, with the coming of post-PC era, embedded systems and its applications have been the most important development and application. Nowadays , the devices of embedded system have permeated our daily life. The applications of the embedded system cover a wide range of personal mobile equipments such as game console devices, mobile telecommunication products, and media devices or means of transportation and automatic controllers in factory. Even medical treatments, intelligent office, information appliances, and digital consumer manufactures are also involved with the scope of the embedded system.

　　In this thesis, we developed and built up a embedded system for video capturing. We select the Texas Instrument’s TMS320DM270 for our hardware platform and uClinux for our operating system, which derived from Linux and inherited its advantage. We developed the system as well as the drivers and application of its related hardware to construct a video system with capturing, compression and storage.
