研究背景：
由於雙極性疾患為情感性疾患，因此神經系統中與調控情緒反應相關的神經傳導物質即為研究病生理成因的主要目標之ㄧ，而許多研究顯示多巴胺(Dopamine)與雙極性疾患是有相關性的；且多巴胺轉運蛋白(dopamine transporter)在其中扮演舉足輕重的角色。
目前利用影像學來探討雙極性疾患在穩定期的文獻並不多；近幾年隨著神經心理測驗的研究發現雙極性情感疾患在穩定期時也會有認知功能的受損，因而穩定期的雙極性情感疾患也逐漸被重視。本研究目的是利用鎝-99m-TRODAT-1單光子電腦斷層攝影來探討雙極性疾患在穩定期且未使用藥物的多巴胺轉運蛋白。

研究目的：
本研究目的是了解穩定期的雙極性疾患個案在未服用藥時的多巴胺轉運蛋白與一般健康控制組相比是否有差異。

研究方法：
自精神科門診收集7例第一型雙極性疾患、10例第二型雙極性疾患及17例健康控制組。在症狀上之評估是使用中文版之17項漢氏憂鬱量表(每位受試著的HDRS<7)及楊氏躁症量表(每位受試著的YMRS<5)，接著每一位受試著在注射[99mTc]TRODAT isotope後，等待藥物分布體內時間4小時，再接受單光子電腦斷層掃描。

研究結果：
發現雙極性疾患在穩定期時的多巴胺轉運蛋白與健康控制組相比之下的可用率較高（P=0.007），而在穩定期的第一型與第二型的雙極性疾患之間相比未有顯著差異（P=0.44）。

結論：
本研究結果顯示雙極性疾患在穩定期時的轉運蛋白可用率較高，顯示多巴胺轉運蛋白在穩定期的雙極性疾患未服用藥物之個案與健康控制組相比是有差異。

Abstract
Background:
Dopamine has been implicated in the etiology of bipolar disorder. The aim of this study was to explore striatal dopamine transporter (DAT) availability in euthymic bipolar patients.

Methods:
Seventeen drug-free euthymic bipolar patients were recruited. The availability of DAT was approximated using SPECT with [99mTc] TRODAT-1.

Results:
Compared to the controls, the euthymic bipolar patients had significantly higher availability of striatal DAT.

Conclusions:
Even for patients in the euthymic state, the DAT availability is still higher than that of the controls.
