Information sharing has been a critical issue in the literatures of Supply Chain Management. Most studies discussed the value differences between situations with and without information sharing. In this study, we construct a model for finding the optimal degree of information sharing. With regard to the supplier, collecting information can reduce the inventory cost and such the cost reduction, which is often a concave function, would be the benefit of information sharing. On the other hand, the cost of collecting information, which is often linearly or exponentially increasing, is a convex function which, along with the gain from collected information, results in an optimal degree of information sharing for the supplier. We have shown that there is a positive correlation between the optimal degree of information sharing and the correlation between successive demands which means that the more current demand is related to its prior one, the higher value gain from information sharing, and the higher of the optimal degree information sharing.
