This study provides a structured framework to explore the competitive advantage
by using analytic hierarchy process. The resource-based view theory and Porter’s Diamond’s model are applied respectively to distinguish the key resources and
capabilities and the specialized aspect of competitive advantage for Taiwanese aero engine OEM industry. The result is shown that the most important factors of
competitive advantage belongs to four aspects, namely supported relating industries (24%), firm strategy, structure and rivalry (22%), demand conditions (21%), and the Role of government (14%). Surprisingly, the least important aspects are factor conditions (11%) and the chance (9%). This study implies that IT deployment
thorough the upstream and downstream engine OEM manufacturers is indispensable. Further, Strategic alliances with foreign engine manufacturers is a good approach to built and sustain competitive advantage. The government role can play an important role versus the success of the alliances. The next study is suggested to explore the competitive advantage by taking into account both OEM and MRO manufacturers for Taiwanese aero engine industry.
