外人直接投資對於一國經濟成長與發展皆扮演著一重要角色，過去台灣經濟成長的帶動以及現今中國的急速發展。故本研究藉由迴歸分析找出個別影響台灣與中國大陸外來直接投資額的總體經濟變數，由於國際事件的發生對於整體經濟環境亦有所影響，故運用虛擬變數將國際事件的發生導入迴歸模型中，最後對於台灣與中國大陸吸引外資的因素進行探討與比較。
資料期間為1994年1月至2006年12月之月資料，以最小平方法(OLS)分別對台灣與中國大陸之總體經濟變數進行迴歸分析以及各項檢定(單根檢定、共線性檢定、Nested Hypothesis、D-W檢定以及變異數不齊一檢定)並加入虛擬變數代表國際事件發生的期間。
實證研究結果發現影響台灣外來直接投資額的總體經濟變數，包括了有匯率、利率、平均薪資以及貿易進出口有顯著影響效果；中國大陸方面則是利率、躉售物價指數、貨幣供給額、貿易出口額以及平均國民生產毛額有顯著的影響效果。虛擬變數方面在迴歸模型中皆沒有顯著的影響效果。

Foreign direct investment plays an important role in a nation’s economic development and growth. Both in the Taiwan’s past economic growth and in China’s rapid development. This research uses regression analysis to find macroeconomic variables that effect FDI in Taiwan and China individually. We generally agree that international events will trigger an immediately shock in our overall economic environment whereas the influence of international events on FDI was seldom mentioned. So we use dummy variable to take international events into account.
The research uses monthly data from January 1994 to 2006 December and OLS to investigate the determinants of inward FDI in Taiwan and Chian. The results suggest that exchange rate、interest rate、average wage and export & import values have significant effects in Taiwan model and interest rate、wholesales price index、money supply、export values and PCGNP be signifiant in China model. But the international events don’t have significant effects on FDI in both Taiwan and China model.
