Since COVID-19 swept the world, human life patterns and thinking have undergone tremendous changes. In the past, people would "travel" as a way to escape from their current living status, get rid of the old daily routine, retune their mood, and relax. However, after the outbreak of the pandemic, it has become more difficult for long-distance couples who were already limited by distance to meet. Therefore, people develop more diverse online activities to meet each other and maintain connections.
College students are one of the most common long-distance couple types. This study takes such couples as the target group of the design study. Based on the daily interaction behaviors of long-distance couples, we developed a set of online interaction mechanisms, designed a preliminary virtual online travel, and invited long-distance couples to explore. The data of the semi-structured interviews were analyzed, and diverse scales were used to evaluate users’ experiences. We then brought the material of the actual field into the online travel. The area of Zouzhen in Tainan was chosen as the target area for map design to enrich the online experience. Finally, we provided distanced couples with a new possibility of online interaction to help them improve their relational quality, such as increasing intimacy, promoting participation in a joint life together, and enhancing their cooperative skills in a companionship.
