因河繁盛之城，必定有橋梁存在。橋，除了是連結兩岸、供人渡河的構造物，也是都市中重要的公共活動的場所。本論文以此為論題，選擇新北市三峽區長福橋為題，企圖由場所的觀點重新設計此人行橋，並戮力於構造美學，卑使其能豐富此由梁形塑之城市廣場。
論文主要可分為四大部分：
一、 論橋與梁：從橋的字源，了解橋梁構築的基本原型和結構概念，以及其中隱含的文化與社會深意，說明橋與梁之關係。
二、 論橋、城市、與場所：探討橋梁與城市的關係，以及不同時代的橋梁構築觀點與特色；歸納橋梁作為場所必具有心與界，且能創造氛圍，並由此反思台灣都市橋梁現況。
三、 基地概述與分析：從其地名、城鎮發展狀況、與長福橋現況等層面，了解橋梁兩岸特性以及週遭環境潛力。
四、 設計發展提案：以「由梁形塑廣場」為主軸，嘗試發展各種可能，最終以梁的多重造型組構成整體提案，回應各種基地潛力。橋上攤販、觀廟看臺、河中央平臺、座椅、棚架、橋臺公園、照明、排水、扶手細節等，均予以詳細考量，以創造出橋梁氛圍，並使其成為三峽的生活核心。
構築與場所，相輔相成，共同形塑橋梁整體，使其成為城市之記。

Bridges exist in any river-city. Bridge is, and was, not only the connection of two sides, but a public place in the city. Based on this issue, this thesis takes San-Xia Chang-fu Bridge of New Taipei City as the topic, and intends to reform this footbridge and its tectonics. I wish the new designed bridge constructed via beams can take a role of new city-plaza.
This thesis contains four parts as below:
1. Bridge and Beam: From bridge’s etymology, bridge typology, and cultural /social meanings to demonstrate the relationship between bridge and beam.
2. Bridge, City, and Place：Discussing the relationship between bridge and city, as well as bridges’ constructions and characters in historical context; taking the ideas of core and boundary in a place, via which to create atmosphere thus to review the problems of urban bridges in Taiwan.
3. Site：By tracing the original meaning of San-Xia, the development of city, and the present condition of Chang-fu Bridge to understand the character of two sides and the capacities of its environment.
4. Proposal：To take “forming the plaza via beams" as the main axis to reach multi possibilities, and finally to obtain varied forms of beam-construction which can echo its environment. Vendor stools, watching decks, a central deck, seats and shelters, an abutment-reading corner, lighting, drainage, and handrails, are all deliberately considered in this project, from which to create its atmosphere and to make the bridge as a living core of San-Xia.
Tectonics and placeness are reciprocal elements of a good bridge where will turn into an energetic urban landmark.
