The purpose of this research is to identify which electricity production sources have a significant effect on the marginal cost of electricity in Panama. Panama, like most Central American countries, bases its electricity production on hydroelectric power, thermoelectric power, and electricity purchases. Only secondary data provided by official entities was used in order to assure that the numbers used for the research were consistent. The results of the research suggest that it is necessary to switch to less oil-dependent electricity production alternatives in order to achieve lower electricity production cost for the Panamanian market.
