The present study examines the relationship existing among customers’ desire,
satisfaction and trust towards revisit intention in hostel patronage in Taiwan. This study
uses the expectation-confirmation theory to examine the relationships among variables,
namely expectation, perceived value and service quality, which are the antecedents of
customers’ satisfaction and trust. A moderating variable, namely desire, was integrated into
the research framework. The survey questionnaire method was employed to collect data
with a total sample of 200 respondents. The samples were collected over five hostels
located in the cities of Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung and Tainan. The results show that
expectation and perceived value both have significant effect on satisfaction. In addition,
satisfaction has significant effect on trust and revisit intention. A major significant finding
is that desire has a positive moderating effect on trust and revisit intention. Surprisingly,
there is a negative moderating effect of desire towards satisfaction and revisit intention.
Contrarily, service quality does not produce any significant effect on trust. Similarly, trust
does not influence revisit intention. Overall, the results of this study illustrate that
expectation, satisfaction, and desire are critical factors underlying customers’ revisit
intention in Taiwan’s hostel.
