本研究探討日治時期在臺灣的日式歷史建築修復工程中，榫接形式對歷史建築修復的重要性。榫接於建築對外力的抗性非常重要，好的榫接能有效的對抗外力的侵襲，增加建築物的穩固性。因臺灣氣候濕熱，對於木造建築的保存已相當不易，且位於太平洋上的高地震帶，使得多數的木造歷史建築處於氣候及地震的威脅上。
為降低保存的困難度，本研究將探討常用於木造歷史建築的榫接。此榫接，將依照現有的修復資料，找尋於大木構架上常見的榫接。因大木構架好比建築物的骨架，如同人類一般，骨架一但崩壞將帶動其他部位的損毀，固本研究以使用於大木構架上的常見榫接樣式為主。
本研究將此式樣的榫接，分為常用標準尺寸，與其他可能尺寸的對照組，利用實驗找出抗拉強度較佳的樣式，作同一水平拉力的實驗，依據實驗結果分析，探討本研究之榫接對抗拉強度貢獻。希望能提供修復工程時的一種參考。

This study attempts to study how tenon joint connections affect the restoration of traditional Japanese-style historic buildings during Japanese period. Wood-frame building is similar to that of human skeleton, whereby the damage of any structurally-important wood element will eventually lead to the collapse of the overall building. Hence, good timber joint connections are especially crucial to wood-frame buildings as they enable the building to withstand external forces, thus maintaining overall structural stability. However, the preservation of traditional timber buildings in Taiwan is not easy mainly due to its hot and humid climatic environment. Furthermore, having situated in a seismic-active region, preservation and restoration of timber buildings pose greater challenge to the conservators in Taiwan.
In the hope of reducing the difficulty during timber building restoration, this study attempts to examine two commonly-found yet structurally important tenon joint connections, namely ‘Atsukake-daisen’ joint and ‘Ari’ joint, in Taiwan traditional Japanese timber-frame buildings. From past literature records, a set of commonly-used measurements for the design of the two types of joints is compiled and selected for the specimen design of the experiment.
Full-scale specimens were then tested under different cyclic horizontal loadings to compare their initial rotational stiffness, yield strength and energy absorption capacity of the two types of timber connections. The results obtained were carefully analyzed and can be used as a source of reference for the preservation and repair of Japanese traditional buildings in Taiwan.
