Acupuncture is a commonly used treatment in traditional Chinese medicine. The invasive and painful nature of acupuncture has made painless laser acupuncture more popular. Existing research shows that laser acupuncture is effective in treating disease. In this work, laser acupuncture was selected as the experimental method. Many studies have also shown that pulse characteristics and acupoint resistance are used for disease diagnosis. However, there has been no research observing the changes in pulse characteristics and acupoint resistance after laser acupuncture. Thus, in this work, changes in skin resistance and pulse characteristics after laser resistance are experimentally observed in an effort to determine whether laser acupuncture might have the same effects as needle acupuncture. The results may provide some indirect insights into the effects of laser acupuncture on disease. In the experiment, GSR sensor was used to measure acupoint resistance. PPG sensor was used to measure pulse data, and a mobile app was used to measure the data and upload it to the cloud. The experimental results show a greater change in pulse characteristics and acupoint resistance after higher levels of power laser acupuncture without lift-and-thrust. The changes were smaller than the changes after needle acupuncture. When the duration of laser acupuncture with lift-and-thrust was increased, the pulse characteristics and acupoint resistance changed more. These changes in pulse characteristics and acupoint resistance may be greater than those obtained with needle acupuncture. Therefore, it is possible that laser acupuncture exceeds the effects of needle acupuncture by manipulation for a longer duration.
