This study aims to explore the impact of the introduction of online food delivery systems on urban economies and the environment. The first research method utilized in this study is the Synthetic Control Model, with New Taipei City serving as the experimental group to estimate the effects brought by food delivery services, using a sample period from January 2011 to May 2019. The second research method is the Synthetic Fixed Effects Model, which examines 21 counties and cities in Taiwan, excluding Lienchiang County, with a sample period from January 2011 to December 2022. The empirical results reveal the following:
Summarizing the findings of this study, the impact of online food delivery systems on the environment is primarily reflected in the increase in general waste, which poses a significant environmental hazard. This outcome is likely due to Taiwan's methods of recycling and waste management. Economically, the introduction of online food delivery systems has not significantly boosted revenue in the food and beverage industry.
