  • The present research analyses the impact of the privatization, regulation and competition, on the performance of fixed-line service, measured in telephone penetration and efficiency (measured in main lines subscribers per employee). The region object of this study is the Lower Middle Income economies in Latin American. According to the World Bank these countries are: Belize, Bolivia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Paraguay.
    The literature review generally stated that telecommunication reform might affect positively the performance of the telecommunication. The available data contain information of telecommunication performance from these countries within 1996-2008. The sample period cover the available data hold in International Telecommunication Union (ITU) database and World Bank database, the telecommunication authorities of selected countries and the regulations of the sector.
